Ghana isn’t just a country—it’s a soulful journey that combines history, vibrant culture, and unmatched hospitality. As someone who’s been fortunate to visit Ghana multiple times and explore over 10 African countries, I can confidently say this West African gem holds a special place in my heart.
During my latest 8-day group trip, I explored everything from Accra’s buzzing nightlife to emotional historical sites like Cape Coast Castle. This trip wasn’t just about seeing Ghana; it was about experiencing it, connecting deeply, and sharing its beauty with my guests. Whether you're visiting Ghana for the first time or planning a return, here’s everything you need to know to make your trip smooth, meaningful, and unforgettable.
Day 1: Arrival in Accra
The trip began on Christmas Day, but it wasn’t without its hiccups. My flight from Morocco to Ghana was delayed, and I had to sprint across the airport to catch my connection. To make things more challenging, my bags didn’t arrive with me.
But here’s the thing about Ghana: its warmth and energy make up for any travel stress. After settling into my hotel, I joined my brother Kwame (also my co-host for this trip) for a local Christmas dinner. Delicious mouth-watering boiled yams, garden egg stew, and palm wine served in his backyard—it was the perfect welcome. Later, I retrieved my bags and capped off the night partying with my girl Trice until 6 a.m. Ghana knows how to keep the vibe alive!
Day 2: Rest and Exploring Accra’s Best Spots
After a late night, I let myself sleep in and recharge. My first meal of the day? A hearty bowl of light soup with goat meat—it’s my go-to comfort food in Ghana because it reminds me of manish wata back home in Jamaica.

Next up was a visit to Polish’d, Accra’s top nail salon, for a little self-care. The evening was all about reconnecting with friends: I caught my girl Cassy in her element as an international DJ (DJ Bellaworldwide in the house) at Level Bar & Lounge, and we ended the night with grilled tilapia, jollof rice, and kebabs at Honeysuckle. Then, of course, it was off to dance at Mood Bar and Front/Back, where I even met Bobby Valentino!
Day 3: Prepping for the Group Trip and Nightlife Highlights

With my group arriving soon, Kwame and I spent the day finalizing trip details and prepping welcome bags. By nightfall, the party continued at Detty Rave, where Cassy absolutely owned the DJ booth. We hopped between venues, including Gold Block Party and Sandbox Beach Club. If you’ve never partied until sunrise in Ghana, you’re missing out on some of the best nightlife in the world!
Day 4: Welcoming the Guests

Saturday marked the official start of the trip, and our guests arrived throughout the day. That evening, we kicked things off with a Black & Gold Welcome Dinner—a night that felt regal from start to finish. From the drummers and dancers to the curated gifts and incredible food, the evening was a celebration of Ghanaian culture. Later, we swapped formal wear for beach vibes and headed to Afrofuture Festival to see King Promise perform his afrobeats hits.

Day 5: Immersing in History and Shopping Local

Sunday was all about exploring Accra’s history and culture. We toured Independence Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, learning about Ghana’s path to independence and the legacy of its first president.

Afterward, we dove into the vibrant Art Center to shop for kente prints, jewelry, and handcrafted items.
The night ended on a high note at Bella Afrik Beach Club, where Cassy deejayed an old-school hip-hop set. We wrapped up at Mood Bar, dancing until the early hours—again!
Day 6: Aqua Safari Resort Adventures
A 2-hour drive took us to the Ada region, where we spent the day at Aqua Safari Resort. Guests enjoyed horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and jet skiing, while others relaxed by the river, soaking in the serene vibes. It was exactly what we needed after several days of nonstop activity. That night, we stayed in to prepare for an early morning photoshoot.
Day 7: Kente Prints and Cultural Ceremonies

New Year’s Eve started with a stunning photoshoot in our vibrant kente print outfits at Independence Square. Later, we attended a batik-making class, where we learned the intricate process of dyeing fabric with Adinkra symbols. This hands-on activity was both creative and meaningful.

The day’s highlight was a traditional naming ceremony, where each guest received a Ghanaian name based on the day of the week they were born. Led by Kwame and local elders, the experience was deeply moving and left everyone feeling connected to Ghana’s culture.

We rang in 2025 at the PVO x Afrofuture Party, rocking silver outfits and celebrating under fireworks. It was the perfect way to end the year.
Day 8: Rest and Recharge

Day 8 was a much-needed free day, with no scheduled activities, allowing everyone to spend the day as they pleased—whether it was catching up on sleep, getting their hair braided, visiting a beach club, or shopping. I chose to recharge by sleeping in, enjoyed dinner at a local restaurant with friends, and called it an early night to prepare for the early start the next day.
Day 9: Cape Coast and Emotional Reflections

Our final day of the group trip took us 4 hours north to Cape Coast, where history came alive in the most emotional way. At Assin Manso Slave River, we retraced the steps of our ancestors, washing our hands and faces in the same river where enslaved Africans took their final bath. The experience was heart-wrenching yet necessary, offering a chance to honor those who came before us.

Later, we visited Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the atrocities of the transatlantic slave trade were laid bare. Walking through the Door of No Return was a moment of profound reflection and grief.

That evening, back in Accra, we came together at Mood Bar. It wasn’t just a night out—it was a moment to reflect, uplift one another, and celebrate the enduring spirit of our shared history.
Day 10: Relaxation and Celebration

We started the day by picking up our finished batik fabric, and the results were nothing short of stunning. Each piece carried so much meaning and pride, showcasing the hard work we put in earlier in the week.

From there, we made our way to Asenema Waterfall for a truly unique experience—an outdoor massage in front of the powerful cascading falls. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, with the sound of the water and birds creating the perfect backdrop. Our massages, led by talented and charismatic local men, left everyone feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. As one of our guests, Alana, put it, "20/10 recommend!"

That evening, we came together for a traditional farewell dinner at Azmera Restaurant. Over a feast of delicious local dishes, we reminisced about the trip, sharing laughs and our favorite memories from the journey. To wrap up our incredible Ghana adventure, we headed to Polo Beach Club for a lively final send-off—a perfect ending to an unforgettable trip.
